Lake Worth, FL Man Killed in Early Morning Hours, Hit-and-Run Crash
In the early morning hours of Sunday, October 23rd, authorities from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office responded to a traffic incident near the 1200 block of Military Trail in the suburbs of West Palm Beach. Tragically, they discovered that a pedestrian—identified as Jose Luis Yanez Gomez of Lake Worth, Florida—had been struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle.
An eyewitness told law enforcement officers that the vehicle briefly stopped before fleeing the scene. At this time, no arrest has been made and the deadly hit-and-run accident is still under investigation.
Hit-and-Run Crashes are a Serious Burden for Victims: Know Your Options
In Florida, all motorists involved in a collision are required to stop their vehicle, remain at the scene of the crash, and exchange information with other parties. Sadly, that does not always happen. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reports that there are nearly 750,000 hit-and-run crashes nationwide each year. A hit-and-run can put a serious burden on an injured victim and their family. Here is an overview of the steps that you should take if you were hurt by a hit-and-run driver in West Palm Beach:
- Record What You Know: Write down everything you know—from the color of the vehicle to the made/model to a partial license plate. It can all be useful.
- Report the Crash: Call the police. Report the hit-and-run accident as soon as possible.
- Notify Your Insurer: Notify your own insurance carrier. Beyond a no-fault claim, you may also have a claim through UM/UIM coverage in Florida.
- Contact a Lawyer: Get professional legal help. Contact an experienced West Palm Beach hit-and-run accident injury attorney right away.
