Catastrophic Box Truck Crash Reported in Palm Beach County

Sadly, a catastrophic truck accident was recently reported in Palm Beach County, Florida. The terrible crash happened in West Palm Beach, when a GMC Yukon being driven by a man named Robert Guerrero Reyes collided with an Isuzu box truck at the intersection of Summa Street and South Dixie Highway. The crash resulted in the ejection of both occupants of the box truck. The driver, 27-year-old Oliver Lizandro Mateo Rodriguez, and passenger, 24-year-old Gaspar Lopez Hernandez, were rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center. Unfortunately, Mr. Hernandez succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The crash is still under a more comprehensive investigation.

Three Key Things to Do After an Accident With a Box Truck in Florida

A box truck is a chassis cab truck with an enclosed cuboid-shaped cargo area. These trucks are typically used for transporting goods and services such as parcels, furniture, and commercial shipments. The cargo area is usually separate from the cab and can range in size—but it is still typically quite large. Given their size, box trucks can pose a safety hazard. They must be driven with the highest level of care. Here are three key steps to take if you were involved in a collision with a box truck in Florida:

  1. Pull Over and Call the Police: In Florida, any person involved in a truck accident should stop their vehicle, exchange information, and call the police. Get immediate medical care if you suffered any injury in the collision. Emergencies come first.
  2. Document the Scene of the Crash: You should proactively document the scene of the crash. Take pictures, get the contact details for any eyewitnesses, and obtain a copy of the police report. Evidence will be key to pursuing your claim.
  3. Speak to a Lawyer Before an Insurer: Insurance companies cannot be trusted to look out for your interests—even if you only have a no fault claim. A top-tier West Palm Beach truck accident lawyer will protect your legal rights and your financial interests.
